What a journey writing this book has been!
What a journey it has been for me, writing Fear Conquers All
I started writing this book in 2005. I don’t think even a year before that I could have attempted to. Sometimes you have got to give yourself time; it isn’t always easy to gain perspective straight away, especially when you are in the middle of a storm. You don’t have the time or energy to sit there assessing what it all means, you just have to get through it and wait for calm. That is where rolling with the punches fits in; once you let those punches really hit you, life can very quickly drag you down. It doesn’t take that much to happen to you to put your life into freefall.
By the time I got to chapter 12, I had caught up on my life. I am not sure if I fully intended, when I first started typing, to ever look to publish it. I just knew I’d got a body of (what I’m told are…!) great poems and a fair bit to go through in my own mind, as to the chaos and storm I had been – and still was – going through.
I am not sure if it was therapy for myself, or the advice others, like my dear old mom, to write my story that spurred me on. I wasn’t even sure if I had much to say. Turns out I did!
However, the first half was tough. I’m told my humour gets the reader through it, along with the spirit and fight that I clearly had. But I didn’t feel by the end of that it was a complete book. I could have gone more into the conspiracy centred around being tipped into going private for a life-saving brain operation, that would have made a book in itself, however, that wasn’t what I was looking to do.
So?
Well, I buggered off for ten years and … well, I can’t go into what I did, that is all in the book! But it was basically time to get back out, fight what had gone before, and re-build. If you read the book, you’ll see I rebuilt and then some!
As I explain at the start of part two – I Am The Storm:
I re-started writing this book ten years after finishing most of the first half. ‘I was born in a crossfire hurricane’.
The main writing for Part Two began in 2016 and progressed throughout 2017 with some amazing things happening whilst I’ve been busily typing away.
Enjoy.
