I’ve not blogged quite as much as I’d planned recently, work has been busy and pain fairly high, so something has to give! I do plan to keep on keeping on with these blogs though, if they only inspire one person, it will be job done! And if it leads to a sale or two of the book, job done two-fold!!

I wasn’t in the best shape health-wise over the weekend, it is how brain aches operate, sometimes they are nasty, other times they are complete and utter… ahems!

So I posted out this on Instagram.

What was I talking about? The great honour of former Villa captain and legend, Dennis Mortimer, getting in touch with me to ask if I would write a poem for the sadly departed Ron Saunders. For those who don’t know the history of Villa, to me, this is akin to David Beckham asking a fan to write something about Sir Alex Ferguson.

Dennis had read my book and was very complimentary, and also asked me, “How are you still alive?” No idea!!!!!! Then on Saturday morning, he sent me a text saying he’d forgotten to say how much he liked the poems and would I write one for him to read out at the funeral of Ron Saunders. I was a bit overawed when I first read the text and thought, ‘I can’t do that’. We all get those big moments of doubt don’t we? It is the getting over the moment and pushing on that matters in life though. I texted back saying I’d give it a go, but no promises, as I don’t want to let anyone down.

Then the end came to me, and the rest wrote itself and within an hour, I sent him a draft copy!

Of course I could do it.

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the crux of what I try to be about and try to bang on about to make others realise as well. It might well have been a fairly rotten weekend, but I still achieved something special. I didn’t miss ‘the moment’ or shy away from the challenge.

Get up. Get out. Live! It is the only way, it really is!
